John (Jacko) Alty

“Jacko” Alty is a contemporary artist who has his work held in the University of Tasmania and many private collections throughout the world.

Alty is an illustrator of several published books including Historic Richmond Text Book, Historic New Norfolk Sketch Book published by Rigby Limited. “Sam’s Story”, a children’s book (Peacock Publication)”.

He is referred to in Buyers Guide to Australian Art (Graham Ryles); Australian Artists and Galleries ( Max Germaine); Tasmanian Artist of the 20th Century (Sue Blackhouse).

Having held positions of Australian Artist in Residence at Kreations Gallery Broome, Western Australia, Zenith Gallery Renmark, S.A. , Glenelg Art Gallery S.A. and recently at the Broken Hill Art Exchange, NSW.

“Umberumberka” is overlooking the Mundi Mundi Plains, where you can see the earth curve from the Silverton Dam.
“Umberumberka” was a finalist the 2007 Outback Artists Prize in Broken Hill whilst John Alty was Artist in Residence at the Broken Hill Art Exchange.

“Spirit of the River” is inspired by the country of Victoria Down Station, just up from Renmark, in NSW Australia.
Artists description of Spirit of the River – “It’s the artery of the desert. You pull your boat up on the riverbank, there’s a few cows under the old gums, then climb up the bank and realise you are in the middle of the desert”
