G.Petyarre is one of Australia’s most distinguished artists, showcasing her extraordinary talent in both solo and group exhibitions since the 1980’s.
She was born circa 1945 in her country, Atnangkere, near the remote community of Utopia in the Northern Territory.
Gloria belongs to the Anmatyerre language group and is closely related to other renowned Aboriginal artists.
She is the niece of highly commended artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye and the younger sister of Kathleen Petyarre.
In 1999 Gloria was the first Aboriginal artist to be awarded the prestigious Wynne Prize by the Art Gallery of New South Wales,
which recognises the best landscape painting of Australian scenery.
Her work is included in the collections of the Australian National State Galleries including the National Gallery of Australia, the Powerhouse Museum -Sydney, Westpac New York, Holmes á Court and many other private collections.
Having recently became a Great-Great Grandmother her will continue to inspire the artwork of future generations
