Artist Bio: Joanna Byrne
Born in Birmingham UK 1963
Worked as a mobile display artist for several years for various fashion houses in the U.K.
Studied art and design for 2 years full time at East Birmingham College.
Also trained as traditional Indian mehendi (Henna) artist, and moved to Adelaide in 1999.
Established Henna Art at various markets and festivals whilst developing a style for canvas works.
Worked for “Vivid Room” as an interior stylist and is currently a full time artist.
Joanna’s preferred mediums are acrylics and textured paints incorporating pearl luster and fine gold and silver leaf.
Early works took inspiration from the coastal living aspects of a new life in Australia, with impressions of the sea and sky and their ever changing moods. This is a still a major source of inspiration today.
Recently working closely with interior designers, Ros Brebner of “Presenting Beautiful Homes” and Jill Flint of “The Living Room”, to produce custom pieces of decorative art which, whilst still retaining a feel for the motion and fluidity of the sea and sky, also incorporating that feeling of stepping off the beach and straight into city life, the continual contradiction between the coastal and urban environment of cities like Adelaide.
