Jason Milanovic
Artist Statement
I’m a sculptor whose art practise varies across a variety of mediums. The materials I work in are bronze, ceramics, plaster, silicone, steel, fibre glass, hydroponics and concrete. Aside from traditional sculpture I also enjoy painting, drawing and photography.
The objects and forms that I create usually find their origin in the age old sculptural subject the human figure. Within this tradition I have found the magnetic pull of the traditional materials bronze and clay irresistible and in a bid to unbind myself, to face the reality of trying to discover something new, I have discovered how to use alternative materials and techniques. From these I have developed artefacts and representations of the human and human made form, which show a spirit of lost antiquity both of man and geological creations.
I produce work for exhibition, which has been shown in various galleries around Adelaide and have created several diverse commission pieces for local and overseas clients.
I have conducted various bronze casting workshops as well as four major public art commissions as a collaborative artist and project director. I also provide and facilitate tuition in bronze casting and am currently teaching in a small indigenous woodworking program.
